At AIM, management and leadership is a perennial focus, and with the upcoming election, now more than ever it is important to consider the skills and outcomes of effective leadership. What are those skills you seek from a leader, or that you strive to develop yourself? Effective decision making, strategic thinking, ethical leadership, strong people management or other skills?   

AIM is focused on ensuring you, our Members, have a range of forums to develop your skills and discuss your thoughts on what skills great leadership requires. Our upcoming roundtable series on the topic of ‘Growing the Skills of Managers and Leaders’ will comprise of an opening presentation, leading into an interactive discussion with participants. Our thought leadership and roundtable series provides an opportunity for Members (only) to participate in a two way discussion with numbers limited to 25 attendees for maximum contribution. Think about those skills that you would like to develop or share and come armed with questions and suggestions. See details of roundtables in eight locations.

Throughout May AIM has launched our Emerging Leaders category to Members and Non Members. The ‘Pitch Me Perfect’ events have been attended by almost 300 participants, who have heard from local expert panels on the topic of personal branding. These dynamic sessions have provided invaluable insights into those factors you need to consider to develop and maintain your personal brand. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to have their photo taken in order to update their LinkedIn profile. See Facebook for a sample of photos from some of the events. 

As we look forward to the coming months, we will continue to have our usual selection of TEL Talks, Leadership Updates, and Outstanding Leaders Series. We have some exciting Outstanding Leaders Series coming up over the next couple of months.

David Hall, CEO of Jetstar Australia will discuss the topic The Societal Impact of Sound Management and Leadership in Hobart on 21 June and Melbourne on 28 June. David was appointed CEO of Jetstar in 2010, and has been with the Qantas Group since 2005. During his time as CEO, David has had a strong focus on mental health, and has helmed various initiatives to support the community. Don’t miss out on hearing from a truly outstanding leader next month!

Have you ever wanted to meet ‘Siri’ and ask her a question face-to-face? Hear from Karen Jacobsen, The GPS Girl® and the Australian voice of Apple’s built-in “intelligent assistant” Siri, as she discusses the topic Recalculate in Brisbane on 8 July or Sydney on 15 July. Karen will take you on a journey from Mackay to becoming “The GPS Girl®” whose voice is in 400 million devices and smartphones, to building a business in the Big Apple. She will share the many starts, stops, detours (and a few disasters) she encountered along her own road to success, proving: It Is Never Too Late To Recalculate.
