New Year Resolutions for AIM
Happy New Year to all of our AIM Members, I hope you all managed to get some rest and relaxation over the Christmas break. Many of you will have made New Year’s resolutions for 2015 that will have an impact on your career or business this year.
While some New Year resolutions can be easier than others to stick to, here at AIM we have one resolution that we are 100 percent committed to for 2015 and that is to improve the value proposition for our members. Significant work has been undertaken to enhance and bolster the AIM membership offering in order to provide career value adding experiences for all of our Members.
AIM is uniquely positioned to support our Members and facilitate their growth through training, networking and access to world class thought leadership. Late last year I outlined some of the exciting new membership offerings we will be rolling out this year and I’d like to tell you about some of these now in more detail.
A brand new exclusive benefit for Members and an Australian first, is the ability to access the internationally recognised designation of Chartered Manager (CMgr). Chartered Manager is available exclusively to AIM Members through a partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in the United Kingdom. This will be offered in addition to the Certified Practicing Manager designation that is currently available.
The ability to access these designations and the personal and professional development framework that sits underneath these will allow you to further promote your standing in the management and leadership community, accelerate career advancement and stand out amongst your peers and professionals in the industry. For more information you can go to aim.com.au/chartered. You can also register for a Webinar hosted by CMI to hear more about how you can become a Chartered Manager. Register now.
Research has shown that 96 percent of Fortune 500 company executives credit mentoring as an important developmental tool and 75 percent say that mentoring has played a key role in their career success. Our own survey of Members has backed this research with many of you listing mentoring opportunities as one of the key benefits of being a Member of AIM. The AIM Mentoring Program has already been wildly popular with Members and will continue in an expanded form in 2015. Exclusive to Members, AIM Mentoring is a complimentary six month program offered as part of your membership, no matter where you reside.
The Program for 2015 will consist of three cohorts each running for 6 months with the first cohort beginning on February 16 followed by two more on June 1 and September 21. Each cohort will be open to 40 mentors and 40 mentees and I encourage Members to get involved with this fantastic program as it is a truly unique and rewarding initiative.
As promised, we will also be rolling out a new and improved events calendar in 2015 and the first major event for the year will be the expanded version of AIM’s hugely successful International Women’s Day Debate. After attracting sell-out crowds for many years in Brisbane, the AIM IWD Debate will be held in Sydney and Melbourne for the first time in 2015. Two teams of fascinating and well-credentialed speakers will share some witty arguments, powerful management insights and take a refreshingly raw look at the provocative topic of “Do women need to make hard choices to get ahead?”
Some of the debaters for these exclusive events include Mamamia editor, Jamila Rizvi, Herald Sun columnist, Wendy Tuohy and Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation CEO, Miriam Dwyer. Tickets are selling fast so be sure to book your spot at this not to be missed event.
With many more new developments scheduled for the rest of the year, 2015 promises to be one of the brightest periods in AIM’s 75 year history and I look forward to sharing with you many more exciting initiatives over the year ahead. As we move into a new chapter in AIM’s story, I am pleased to be bringing all of our valued Members along for the journey. Happy New Year.
