Welcome to the September edition of Leading Edge. This month our introduction comes from David Pich, our Chief Executive here at AIM.

It’s been a busy month at AIM. On 29th August we held National Networking Day in six locations around the country. We were hoping to break the Guinness World Record for the largest business networking event in multiple locations. We didn’t quite break the record – but we did pull-off speed networking on an immense scale. I attended the Brisbane event, and despite battling jetlag, the event was an energising and invigorating experience. I met with a range of AIM Members and non-members all of whom had an interesting story to share.

With over 10,000 business cards exchanged on the day, we really proved Networking is Working!

As we move into October we are gearing up for the AIM National Conference in Brisbane on 19th October. The conference is built around the seven key skills of successful leaders, which also forms the basis of our new book Leadership Matters: 7 Skills of Very Successful Leaders. The book is due out next year and as part of the writing process I have been interviewing a number of high profile international leaders on their understanding of what makes a good leader.

On the evening of the 19th, following the conference, we will be hosting the National Final of the AIM Leadership Excellence Awards. So far we’ve recognised outstanding leadership at our Regional and State finals, making the National Final an event not to be missed. The National Final will be held as part of AIM’s 75th Anniversary Gala Dinner. If you are in Brisbane for the AIM Conference, why not stay on for the evening and take the opportunity to meet some of Australia’s most exceptional managers and leaders as we celebrate AIM’s long and distinguished history.

I'd like to take this opportunity to also remind all AIM Members to take advantage of your local Member Lounge and Knowledge Centre. We have Member Lounges around the country to provide Members with comfortable and high-functioning facilities to catch up on work or get away from the crowds. AIM’s Knowledge Centres offer you exclusive access to AIM’s Business Library and Management Books as well as thousands of online journals including Harvard Business Review and McKinsey Quarterly. I strongly encourage you to make use of these complimentary resources which are exclusive to AIM Members.
