South Australian Excellence Awards winners announced

Friday, August 28, 2015

Three outstanding South Australian managers have been named as the best in the state in the Australian Institute of Management’s Excellence Awards.

Nidal Rasheed has been named Young Manager of the Year for his work as Managing Director of Silvertail Property Group.

Within ten years of leaving school, Nidal’s trademark efficient and ethical practices, along with endless determination, took him from running lolly vending machines to launching Silvertail Property Group.

“I tell my team that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,” Mr Rasheed said.

“I look at myself as a walking billboard for the business and I think that’s infectious amongst my team.”

Paul Scully was the winner of the Not for Profit Manager of the Year for his role as Chief Executive of Baptist Care SA, an organisation that employs 600 staff providing services such as caring for children who have been abused or neglected, disabled clients, refugee support and mental health counselling.

“To be honest, the reason I got involved was to get some recognition for my organisation and more broadly for the great work that goes on in the not for profit sector so it’s fantastic to win the award,” Mr Scully said.

“I believe our success is all about our culture as culture eats strategy for breakfast every day of the week.”

Iain Woollaston was named Manager of the Year for his role as General Manager of Cook Building & Development.

Iain has been a major part of the reinvention of an old family owned business, taking it from an initial turnover of $1Million to an anticipated turnover this year of $35Million.

“This award is great recognition for what the team and I have achieved in what is still a very new business,” Mr Woollaston said.

“We’ve won some other industry awards for the business so it’s great to have the way we manage the business recognised as well.”

The winners of the South Australian Excellence Awards will now have an opportunity to vie for the ultimate prize at the National Excellence Awards in Melbourne on October 16.
