The South Australian Regional Advisory Committee Announced!

In January 2017 the South Australian Regional Advisory Committee was formed. The role of a Regional Advisory Committee is to reflect and amplify the strategic direction of AIM within South Australia. The Regional Advisory Committee works in an advisory capacity with AIM, to operationalise initiatives in that region and grow regional Membership and engagement. 

Introducing the South Australian Regional Advisory Committee members:

Steven Travers, Regional Chair, AFAIM

Steven Travers is the Executive Manager of IoT MER: the Internet of Things Cluster for Mining & Energy Resources, run by the AIIA. Steven graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a joint honours degree in Geology & Petroleum Geology, and also holds masters degrees in Drilling & Well Engineering, and Business Administration. He joined the Energy Resources industry in 2001 and has held a number of roles in a variety of locations including; Field Engineering and Geoscience, Integrated Project Management, Sales Management, and Senior & Executive Management positions. Prior to commencing his current role, Travers was Operations Director at Baker Hughes responsible for the Central Australia area, and also founded a boutique Management Consultancy.

Tamsin Garrod AIMM

Tamsin began her career in medical research and was awarded a PhD in 2013. Following this, Tamsin was appointed as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Adelaide. She then transitioned out of research into healthcare management and is currently a Section Manager in the not-for-profit, healthcare-related sector. Tamsin is also completing a Master of Business Administration at the University of Adelaide. Tamsin is a representative of emerging leaders in South Australia as she recently became a member of the AIM Emerging Leaders Advisory Board.

Mandy Toczek McPeake FAIM CPMgr

In her role as Executive Manager, Consumer Services at Carer Support, Mandy provides internal consultancy expertise in change management, strategy and leadership, to the CEO and Board. She also manages a large team working in the community and at three Carer Support Centres in Adelaide supporting around 5,000 family carers, older people and people with a disability or mental health issues. Since 2014 she has led the design and implementation of the new consumer directed services business unit, a fee for service initiative supporting entrants to the NDIS and others with packages of funding.

A leader in community sector management in the last two decades, Mandy has developed broad expertise enhanced by a deep commitment to life-long learning. Mandy completed a Masters in Health Research in 2003 and a Masters in Business Administration at the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) in 2015. She is a Fellow of AIM and a member of AIM's Adelaide Regional Advisory Group.
Mandy has an extensive list of achievements in service development and consultancy work, including development of the SA Head Injury Service now the Hampstead Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit.  Mandy started her career in Speech Pathology in the UK and built a reputation in the UK, NSW, Victoria and South Australia as an accomplished specialist rehabilitation clinician, lecturer and published consultant.

Kath Milne FAIM CPMgr

In a career spanning three decades, Kath Milne has been a senior executive in the financial services sector and NFP sector. Kath is now embarking on the next stage of her career as a management consultant with extensive experience in leading major operations; developing services and benefits for customers as an Executive in the financial services industry, information technology industry and in the not for profit sector, both internationally and in Australia.  She is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC), with the International Coaching Federation.

For the last five years Kath, has worked in the NFP sector as General Manager Group Operations for the Can: Do Group.  In this role, she has had a focus on aligning the organisation around the customer in preparation for the NDIS.   Can: Do along with the rest of the sector, has to do things differently – recognising that old practices will not support the new way of doing business. The sector is embracing substantial change with the ultimate aim of business improvements that result in choice and better quality life outcomes for people living with disability.  It will also require a process for supporting service providers to implement continued cost efficiencies, improve quality of services and achieve an enhanced customer focus.Her areas of passion are leading transformational change in complex environments, leadership brand and values, and reengineering business processes for improved productivity and performance.   She is focused on increasing the capacity and capability of organisations and people and enjoys mentoring and bringing out the best in people. 

Ben Luks AIMM

Ben Luks is the Marketing Manager at Comunet, one of South Australia’s leading IT service providers. His involvement with AIM extends back to the Young Professionals Group in South Australia, before he completed a Diploma of Management through the Institute as part of the Royal Society for the Blind’s Young Business Leaders Program. Ben graduated with Honours in Marketing from The University of Adelaide, after completing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, majoring in Management, Marketing and International Business.

Chris Cornwall AIMM

An accomplished and results orientated HR Professional (currently engaged as the Senior Human Resources Advisor at Peregrine Corporation) with proven success in HR Management & Return to Work & Injury Management Advisory roles. Confident and pragmatic in approach, with proven results in managing a wide range of human resource priorities and functions in the most cost effective manner. As a proactive relationship builder with stakeholders across all levels, consistently demonstrated an ability to understand critical business needs and the importance of HR alignment with business strategy.  Highly conversant across key employment legislation and law (litigation and tribunal representation), including the Fair Work Act 2009, NES, Modern Awards, Workplace Health and Safety , and Workers Compensation Legislation.  Well-developed advisory skills including the ability to interpret relevant legislation whilst providing sound advice across all levels of the organisation.  

Marius Pretorius FAIM CPMgr

Experienced management professional with extensive leadership and operational experience within several sectors of the automotive and mining industries in Australia, USA, Europe, Asia and Africa. Over 20 years’ experience in large global organisations and family owned businesses that are manufacturing and service based. Areas of responsibility includes operations, quality assurance, business management systems, compliance, governance and improvement that is aligned with strategy, business and customer objectives. Veteran of several successful green field sites, large brown field expansions and turn around interventions where highly developed change management, people leadership, agile strategic planning and business skills are key enablers for success. Selected as steering team member and project leader for several large global projects with complex and diverse stakeholder interaction across geographical, cultural and language barriers. Considered a natural LEAN, strategic thinker with a pragmatic, inclusive leadership style and a record of operational improvement/business excellence on all levels. Passionate about leadership, lifelong learning and professional development having most recently completed a MBA degree at AIM (2010-2012), FAIM and CPMgr. Regularly seeks out top professionals for personal coaching and development, likes to give back by mentoring and coaching a few MBA students, emerging and established managers.

John Peake FAIM CPMgr

John spent 17 continuous years in senior management roles within operation and administration settings.  Since 2006 he has operated a successful business service and regularly assists private, public and not-for-profit sector clients.  He has established himself as a highly regarded and trusted advisor and facilitator focusing upon strategic management and associated leadership issues.

With an academic background in Executive Leadership, Public Policy and Education, John brings a disciplined and reflective focus to his service capabilities.  He has extensive experience in program design, implementation and presentation in a diverse range of organisations.  He has undertaken and managed a number of challenging continuous improvement and change management projects across different service areas.  John regularly facilitates management and leadership programs at higher education and VET levels locally, nationally, and internationally; these are through face-to-face and online processes.  He is accredited in Emotional Intelligence reporting and DiSC Personality Profiling.

David Russell FAIM CPMgr

David was appointed Chief Executive RAA Insurance in January 2008. David has over 20 years experience in the insurance industry, predominantly in Personal Lines with SGIC and IAG. Key Accountabilities include Board Reporting, Strategic Development, Company Leadership and Corporate Governance.  With advanced leadership, communication and relationship management capabilities combined with strong business acumen, strategic foresight and deep operational experience, David has a strong understanding of Personal Lines Insurance with a track record on building sustainable growth in both top and bottom line performance.
