FAQs

What is AIM's Psychological Safety at Work course and who is it for?

Psychological Safety at Work is a one-day AIM short course that equips you with the knowledge, skills and mindset essential for fostering psychological safety in the modern workplace. By emphasising the creation of an inclusive environment that promotes a sense of safety, appreciation and active participation, you will develop a variety of strategies aimed at enhancing individual wellbeing, team cohesion and overall organisational success. It is primarily designed for managers and leaders who want to navigate the unique challenges and barriers related to psychological wellbeing within diverse organisations, though the course is relevant to a broad professional audience.

What will I learn in Psychological Safety at Work?

Upon completion you will be able to: explore the meaning and significance of psychosocial health and wellbeing; identify the importance of psychological safety at work and its critical link to mental health and wellbeing; assess the current level of psychological safety in your workplace and understand the essential components that promote it; manage and overcome the modern workplace challenges and barriers that hinder psychological safety; explore practical strategies and tools for executing psychological safety initiatives at different levels within the workplace; and incorporate the learnings to refine organisational practices, resulting in enhanced psychological safety and wellbeing.

Where and how is Psychological Safety at Work delivered?

One day (9:00 am–5:00 pm) on campus in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra, or as a live virtual classroom (9:00 am–5:00 pm AEDT/AEST). Closed cohort in-house delivery is also available.

What do I receive on completion of Psychological Safety at Work?

An industry-recognised AIM digital certificate of attainment to print or share electronically on LinkedIn and other professional platforms. Closed cohort delivery allows the content to be contextualised to your organisation's specific culture, industry and psychological safety challenges, ensuring the strategies learned are immediately applicable to your team's real environment.

Why is psychological safety important in Australian workplaces right now?

Psychological safety has become a legal and strategic imperative for Australian organisations. Psychosocial hazards, including excessive workloads, poor workplace relationships and lack of role clarity, are now regulated under Work Health and Safety legislation in most Australian states and territories. Beyond compliance, organisations with high psychological safety consistently outperform on innovation, engagement, retention and productivity. AIM's facilitators bring deep, current expertise in mental health and wellbeing in Australian workplace contexts, including practical experience implementing psychological safety frameworks across diverse industries.

How does Psychological Safety at Work differ from Resilience in Self?

Psychological Safety at Work focuses outward, on the conditions you create as a leader to enable others to speak up, take risks and contribute fully without fear. Resilience in Self focuses inward, on building your own personal capacity to manage stress, recover from setbacks and sustain performance. Both courses are complementary: effective leaders in today's environment need both the personal resilience to model healthy behaviours and the practical skills to build psychologically safe conditions for their teams.
