FAQs

Effective Communication (Online) is a self-paced AIM online short course that explores proven communication techniques and strategies that can be used to develop and maintain successful relationships both inside and outside the workplace. It is designed for anyone who wants to express thoughts and opinions more confidently, improve their personal communication style and work more effectively with others, studying entirely on their own schedule.

Upon completion you will be better equipped to: identify and develop your personal communication style while adapting your behaviours to better express your ideas in the workplace; understand the role of culture, stereotypes and bias in communication and break down barriers to communicate effectively; use active listening and effective questioning skills to enhance your understanding and show empathy; and give and receive appropriate feedback, using trusted techniques to deal with difficult situations.

The course provides up to 6 months of continuous access to AIM's myAIM platform, available 24/7 on any device. Activities, reflections and case studies link your learning back to your workplace throughout the modules. Inclusions are downloadable course notes and tools. No formal assessment; payment by credit card only. Unique login details are provided to each student and must not be shared.

Yes, it is one of AIM's most foundational communication courses and a natural first step before progressing to more targeted programs such as Advanced Communication (Online), Fast Thinking – Confident Speaking, or Presenting with Impact. It is also included as one of three bonus online courses with several AIM on-campus short courses, including the on-campus Effective Communication course.

Both develop the same foundational communication and relationship skills. The online version is fully self-paced with up to 6 months of continuous access, ideal for professionals who prefer to study around their schedule. The on-campus Effective Communication course runs for two full days with live facilitation, peer discussion, real-time role-play, and expert feedback, and includes bundle discounts and three bonus online courses valued at $4,125: Creative Thinking and Continuous Improvement (Online), Introduction to Project Management (Online), and Effective Communication (Online). Choose online for maximum flexibility; choose on-campus for the depth of live peer learning and the additional course inclusions.
