Working with data is part of everyone’s role and learning how to harness the power of Excel to improve your productivity and efficiency is the becoming increasingly important for individuals, teams and companies to succeed.

This one-day course builds on your existing knowledge of simple formulas and enables you to use advanced formulas and functions to extract rich management information for business decision-making in diverse areas such as sales, projects, budgets, forecasts, and human resources.

Using a real-world scenario, you will learn how to construct formulas and use Excel’s inbuilt advanced functions in large data sets to extract business information. Then you will apply your learning to real data from your workplace.

This course is designed for those with foundational knowledge of Excel functions who want to learn advanced formulas, enhance their skills, and harness the full power of Excel.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to use:

  • Prepare data - Use Power Query to clean and transform data
  • Logical functions - Automate tasks by testing values in other cells and performing actions dependent upon the result of the tests
  • Nest functions - Use one or more functions within another function to create more complex and powerful formulas to perform calculations, manipulate data, or make logical evaluations
  • Conditional functions - Create logical calculations to automate “If (this), then (that)”
  • Essential functions - Use essential array functions to make unique list and sort, filter, and transpose data; create geographical maps
  • Lookup and reference functions - Work with ranges of data and cross reference between different data sets
  • Date and time functions - Extract information from, and perform operations on dates and times
  • Text functions – Manipulate strings to help work with names, addresses, customer lists, or any other text-based data

Requirements

 

Students must bring their own:

  • PC or Mac
  • A working version of Excel (2016 or later). If your version of excel doesn’t have a feature, you can use the free web-version of Excel Online
  • Access to a personal or workplace Microsoft account (an email address and password that you use with Outlook.com, Hotmail, Office, OneDrive, Skype, Xbox, and Windows)

  • Explore the 6 provided EFB-DHA practice file (in myAIM) before attending the course
  • Bring real workplace examples to implement what you have learnt
